Celebrating the life of
Elizabeth Head Richardson
October 19, 1928 - November 30, 2011
Elizabeth Lib Head Richardson, age 83, passed away quietly on November 30, 2011, after a brave struggle with cancer. Mrs. Richardson was a 57-year resident of Savannah. She was born in Zebulon, Georgia, graduated from Washington Seminary in Atlanta, and attended Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia.
One of the greatest joys of Lib's life was learning, which she continued to do throughout her life, attending classes until her illness prevented it in October of 2011. Her love for history, art, music and architecture inspired her to embrace historic Savannah and the many rich opportunities that it provided. She was involved with many organizations during her life, including the Junior League, the Colonial Dames, the Historic Savannah Foundation, the English Speaking Union, the Owens-Thomas House, and St. John's Church where she belonged and also served as a docent.
Lib loved life and her many friends. She enjoyed her monthly book club and music club gatherings, as well as her twice-weekly tennis games, with friends that played together for decades. Lib had a big heart and enjoyed serving others; she literally lit up the room with her presence and will be deeply missed.
Mrs. Richardson was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Jenkins Richardson, Jr. She is survived by her son, Willis Jenkins Richardson III, and daughter-in-law, Laura Richardson; her son, Scott Head Richardson, and daughter-in-law, Margaret Carswell Richardson; her grandson, Scott Durden Richardson, and his wife, Julie Lyeki Richardson; her great-grandson, Jackson Carswell Richardson; her granddaughter, Margaret Ravenel Richardson, and her fiancé, Stephen John Lewis; her niece, Susan Head Jones, and her husband Darryl Jones; her grandnephew John Darryl Jones, Jr. and grandniece Katherine Ann Jones; her nephew Russell Lamar Head; and her nephew James Douglas Head and grandnieces Sarah Ann Head and Mary Kathryn Head.
Her funeral service will be held at St. John's Church at 11:00 on Friday, December 2, 2011, followed by a celebration of life reception at the Green-Meldrim House. Memorials may be sent to The Telfair Museum of Art, The Savannah Humane Society, or Hospice Savannah.

Lib Richardson was a beautiful southern lady. Her friendly face and generous spirit brightened the lives of those around her. Whether in the classes and international travel with The Learning Center, tennis at Daffin Park, or lunch and the movies, Lib was a joyous person with whom to spend time. I am Catherine Connor Hopkins. I was reared in the Episcopal Home for Girls from 1950 - 1968. Mrs. Richardson was on the Board of Directors and my sponsor. I especially remember a decorative purse she gave me around Easter that I really liked. I am very sorry to hear of her passing. Her acts of kindness and generosity made a lasting impression on me. I have attempted to pass these traits on to others. I am a geriatric nurseskilled care for 35 years and selected as a 2008 Community Star. I'm forever grateful for the women of the church who cared about us and in particular Mrs Richardson who cared about our spiritual growth and well being. With deepest sympathy.
